I currently have 8GBs of RAM on my PC and I've been wanting to upgrade to 16GBs for quite some time now. Problem is that there are plenty of different types of RAM in the market and I'm not too familiar with it.. Is there any specific model that I should get?

My CPU is an Intel core i7-4790K 4.0GHz and my GPU is an ASUS ROG Strix 1080..

If you want to just buy 8GB more, then go with the exact same RAM you have now (exactly, same speed, timings, voltage).

If you want to buy 16GB RAM kit (which is typically the recommended way to go) then maybe we can suggest some good kits.

But first, tell us your motherboard, particularly if it is a Z-series chipset. Also, what CPU cooler do you have? They can present RAM heigh clearance issues.

Again, since I'm not too familiar with RAM I don't know whether I should buy the exact same one or a new kit altogether, but I think I'd rather buy a new 16GB RAM kit instead.

My motherboard: Gigabyte G1.Sniper H6
I use the stock CPU cooler.

Here is a more detailed breakdown of my RAM, if it's of any use:
