I've had my 4690k for about a month now. I bought this chip so I could fiddle around with Intel's overclocking abilities. So far I have it a 4.4 ghz on 1.150v, the problem is the temps. I'm using a basic Enermax T40 still and ran 5 minutes of OCCT. Max temps reported by core temp was 79, 74, 73, and 70. Whats your opinion. Are these temps too hot? Should I just lower the oc until I get better cooling? Thanks in advance.

I would test it for atleast 20 minutes (minimum) and if it stays under 85c it's fine, TJMax on the haswells is 100c, personally I'd keep it under 90c. Try intel burn test at high stress.

You will most likely never see those temps in any real world usage.

What cooler would you recommend for 100 or under? Thanks for your input guys. I'll test a little longer but I'm ultimately going to go back to 4ghz. Just wanted to see how far I could go :)

Noctua NH-D14 or D15 providing it fit in your case and is compatible with your motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely will give those coolers a look. Just let it run for 20 more minutes. Highest temps were again on core 0 which was 79 again and all the other temps were the same.... weird. Any idea of what voltage I should start with at 4.0?
