Is there any reason that they are awful? Do they overheat or something? I can't do the NVIDIA cards as I plan on using linux a lot and have had lots and lots of problems with NVIDIA cards

They use sub-par components, and their heatsink designs are pretty poor. Their customer service is also absolutely terrible.
