Wanting New CPU and Motherboard, but on budget.

Hey, I have a Gateway FX 6840-15e, of which I have already upgraded the graphics card (R9 280) and the power supply (750 watt) but the cpu is really not that great for upcoming and recent games, so I have come to the conclusion that I need a upgrade. I know that to upgrade my cpu to anything remotely useful I will also need a new motherboard so I will need a suggestion for that aswell. I have been looking at the Core i5 6600 (non k) since it fits with in my budget nicely ($350). I just need a motherboard that will go with that and also work with all my other hardware. This would be very nice, but you have to check and see if this full size ATX board will fit the Gateway case and that there is nothing proprietary about the Gateway build. The 6500 is very similar to the 6600. You won't notice any difference in gaming. We could re-work the build with a new case and you could pull your GPU, PSU, and HDD from the Gateway.

Thanks for the reply, I would be okay with going with a new case I just don't want to go to much over my budget. Though I wouldn't mind spending alittle less on the CPU to get a good case for 40-50 or so dollars.

Okay, looks good to me. And I could just pull everything else from my current PC and move it into the new case no problem? Would I need to buy anything else, CPU coolers and such?

I forgot about the OS which you will need for the Gateway or the Corsair, unless you can convince Microsoft that your MB died. You will need to reformat your HDD which will erase everything on it and load the OS on it. Maybe you can save the data on something else temporarily and then reload it back on the HDD after the new OS is installed. Put the PSU, GPU, and DVD drive in the new case. The 6500 comes with a cooler.
