Hi, I'm slowly dragging my friend into PC gaming. Atm he has a laptop that just barely plays some of his Steam games.

I'm looking to build him something fairly good that's cost effective. I will only be buying the OS, Mobo and CPU. I will be buying a new power supply for myself and using my old PSU ( which I know works with the GPU I'll be giving him ) as well as Graphics card, RAM and various other bits.

Windows 7 64-bit Professional
Intel Celeron G1840 2.8Ghz
4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
MSI H81M-E33 Micro ATX
GTX 560 Ti 448 Twinfrozr ( 1.2GB )
2x 160GB HDD
700W PSU

I had a few questions that I'd like opinions/Answers on...

1. How well does this CPU perform compared to an Athlon 64 x2 6000+?
This was my old CPU I used with the 560 and I did fairly decent with it. On Passmark website, It says it should be just under double the performance but how true is this?

2. How well does the CPU perform in general?
My friend just has Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead 2, Killing Floor, TF2, Warframe. Things like that on PC. I'd imagine he'd be able to max out nearly all at 1080p, maybe just 900p. If this is true, beyond those games how well would the system perform do you think?

3. Would the CPU bottleneck the GPU?

I can get a bit faster Pentium G3260 for the build instead but once again, from Passmark it would seem it's only gonna be a bit faster. It would cost £10 more and I'm trying to spend as little as I can.

Thanks in advance. Any suggestions on other CPU combos, lemme know please. Everything here but CPU, MOBO and Windows is preowned by me

Well I would suggest spending the 10 pounds extra on the G3260, I mean pretty sure for that much you can buy 3 coffees or something in England if I'm not mistaken, and it is actually quite a decent boost, 500MHz along with 3MB cache instead of 2MB, so definitely I would prefer it over the G1840. Also the intel should perform better than the athlon.

Thanks. I had a look and I could get a G3460 for £5 more than the G3260 so I think I'll go for that, it seems to be as big as a difference between the Celeron and Pentium performance-wise but for only a £15 more.

I'm buying a 750W Modular PSU for myself and giving him my old 700W PSU that I used to use with that card and an Athlon 64 X2 years ago. Only other PSUs I own are older 300-400W PSUs and one 750W PSU that won't work with the 560

I don't know the actual model of the Power Supply, all I know is it's a 700W cooler master PSU ( 50hz, 6A )
