Hey Guys,

I wanting to build a backup/storage server. I want to primarily use it for storing files that i can access on any pc i own. i dont wan to spend anymore then around $750 AUD for the PC with an OS. i was looking for a Microsoft based OS and i am looking for around 2-3 TB. any help would be appreciated.

If you want storage redundancy instead of a single drive, I could switch the 4TB drive out with two 2TB or 3TB drives for RAID1 or something like that. If you don't mind a larger case, you could also go for a somewhat cheaper mid tower instead of the mini-tower.

If you wanted to cut a few corners to save some more money, you could. For example, if you never intend to upgrade the system for other usage, then downgrading to 2GB of RAM and a 32 bit copy of windows will save about $50 and if you don't need the DVD drive, you can save $18. You can save about $100 by going down to a cheaper 2TB drive.
