Hi all. I am in the process of repairing an old PC for my brother. I am in the market for a new GPU and after doing some research to refresh my memory, I wanted to clarify a few things with the community...

The MOBO is a M3A76-CM which has a PCIe 2.0 slot. I was thinking of buying a Nvidia 750 TI which is a 3.0 PCIe slot. The GPU also has 1GB of RAM. The MOBO can take 8GB DDR2 which I have installed. However, the RAM on the GPU is DDR5.

After doing some research I wanted to clarify a few things...
1) GPU's RAM does not have to be the required type of RAM for the MOBO. In other words there is no issue with the GPU ram type.
2) Although the GPU is a 3.0 PCIe slot, it is backwards compatible with the 2.0 slot however it can't reach its full potential.
3) The GPU I have chosen, the 750 TI, should have no issues running on the MOBO?

Solution
1) correct the motherboards memory deals with the CPU's memory controller. The GPU's memory is handled by the GPU's memory controller. Hence there will never be an issue here as each device handles its own memory separately.

2) Correct the PCI_E specification is backwards compatible to PCI_E 1.0 at this point. No changes have been made that would cause compatibility issues as far as the PCI_E connection goes. The speed loss even on a 1080Ti is minimal at best usually less than 5-10% even at PCI_E 1.0 speeds in most games.

3) Correct
