Hello.
I want to record audio from a game using Fraps but I don´t want to record music that plays in the background through iTunes. Is this possible?

Solution
You need a recording program that allows you to save each audio source as separate files. It seems FRAPs does not allow you to do that. That means you need to look at other recording programs that do off you that flexibility.

The program James Mason recommended to you, OBSProject, is capable of doing so. It's a somewhat complex program because it gives you a lot of options, but there should be video tutorials on Youtube that you can search for to get you started. Since all you want to do is record audio, then it should not too difficult to at all.

The only way I can make sense of this quoted part is you mean you don't want to add your own music to the video, because game music has nothing to do with iTunes.

Anyways, depends on the game, but most games in their menu have a music volume option. Just set it to 0, so only game audio is recorded.

With Fraps? no, Fraps is too basic and old of a program to do what you want, you'd need software that records audio sources separately, and then you could use fraps or another program to only record the video, then you'd have to edit the video with video editing software to combine the video and game audio.

Or you can separate audio sources with itunes in a complicated manner, but it may not work specifically because itunes is trash (other media players would work though as they will let you change audio devices.

see this as an example of how it would be done: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-split-or-exclude-audio-sources-off-your-stream-or-recording.8/

LOL, I guess by "I don´t want to record music that plays in the background through iTunes" he meant he wants to use his own background music, but not record it with iTunes.

If that's all he wants to do, there's a way to do it with Fraps recordings by using VirtualDub to demux the audio from the Fraps video, then mix it with his music track via Audacity, then add them back in via VDub.

Only thing is you need to make sure you don't change the length of the audio track, eg music track you add needs to be equal or shorter length.

I have used this method numerous times though, and VDub and Audacity are both good tools and free. Plus Audacity has effects you can add, like fade out, fade in. I'd often combine that with volume level to lower the volume of the background music during character dialog in the game. Works quite well, and easy to use.

I want to play a game and listen to music at the same time in iTunes but I don't want the music to be heard in the recording. I want to record ONLY sound from the game.
