I have been looking at the i7-770
0k as my next cpu upgrade due to my current i5-6400 bottlenecking my gtx 1070. I dont want to take a risk ordering the cpu and then having to return it back to amazon if my motherboard is not compatible. The last time my motherboard was updated on February 10th 2017. After the release of the 7700k. However, I still dont want to risk it. Im rocking an Alienware r5. My motherboard model: Alienware 01NYPT. If this doesnt work out should I just get a 6700k?

I would recommend you to stick with 6700k or just 6700. You will be more than satisfied with this upgrade. 4 cores i5 are simply dying in modern games because of the lack of threads. I was lucky enough to get 7700k at the start of its sales. By that time I considered i5 7400. Thank God I've made a smart decision to buy my 7700k. It is still doing just fine. Only a few modern games really demand 6/12 CPUs. But clearly, it is the trend. Just find yourself decent-priced 6700 (K) and things gonna be much better for you. Your GTX 1070 will fully breathe with more consistent and high FPS. Hope this helps.
