Wanting to upgrade PC for better FPS in games

Hi All,

I am wanting to upgrade my PC to give me better FPS in games, I currently play alot of World of Warcraft and get 60fps out of raids, but when i join a raid and have my dps meter going too i drop to 25-30fps, and this is on minimum settings.

I am looking to upgrade my PC to increase the FPS during these times and also on other games too.

See my PC Specs below, what do you guys think is the best thing for me to upgrade?

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon (TM) R7 370 Series Graphics

Do you have a budget for your upgrade?

FX 6100 never was a very good CPU, and WoW heavily favors Intel/Nvidia based builds. Need a budget, though.

I think it might be my cpu that is holding me back, lets say £200-£300 for an upgrade, but if a bigger upgrade is slightly more than that mark let me know for sure!

Would be great to consider. The Xeon 4c/8t processor will likely (even though older) have more longevity vs. the newer 4c/4t Skylake processor. The Sklylake processor can be upgraded with newer Kaby Lake CPUs though, so there's that.

In addition to this, if i went with the purchase of either of those CPU's, would it still be compatible with my cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler "RR-212E-16PK-R1, 4 Heatpipe, 1x 120mm PWM Fan, Intel / AMD") and is this cooler good enough for the much better processors?

Correct, a switch away from the AMD FX processor will require a new motherboard. The two Intel's also don't use the same motherboard....they are different sockets. You always have to check that the CPU will fit into the motherboard you intend to use.

The top and the bottom one use DDR3 RAM, so you can use what you have in these setups. The middle one uses DDR4, so added 16Gb of RAM because it wouldn't work with your current sticks. It isn't going to make a tremendous difference in the speed of anything, but more of it can help in ultra-demanding games or applications.

They all will work just fine with you cooler though.

Hi not sure if you will see this, hopefully you will, i went with option 2 that you posted but cant seem to get my gpu to fully connect into the motherboard, it doesnt click in easy like on my old one, it just doesnt seem to fit however i believe they should be compatible. The small pins things that should slide up when i slot it in dont move and i cant seem to get it in no matter how hard i push (without being too forcefull)

Okay so update! I finally got it in and had to take the motherboard out first, but now i cant start windows for some reason, it looks on the windows start up repair screen http://imgur.com/xo8OfcA

Any ideas on how to fix this / what might have caused it?
