Some unwanted and unauthorized malware has forced my IE 6.0 home page to an unwanted web site. Ive deleted files and removed unknown registry entries but the malware page persists. Is there some utility to remove that unwanted web page to the one I truly desire? Also, the web page produces a pop up ad as well.

Also, some errant unwanted programs have shown their ugly heads and Ive dleted those in the regisrty but cannot delete them using file manager or the REMOVE PROGRAM function in control panel. The message is "Access denied". I am sick and tired of this crap being placed on my computer and also seek your help to rid myself of this nonsense and invasion.

The unwanted files are:

optimize.exe
tsl.exe
javawb32.exe
WebRebates0.exe

Thank you kindly.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m too lazy to check if you did a search, but when ever you don’t recognize something the first things you should do is search for it. That’s all I did.

I might add, in addition to the excellent malware/spyware apps out there - try Mozilla Firefox 1.0. I've been using Mozilla for several yrs now and rarely need IE, except for windows updates.

everytime I've been infected by one of those, the site I got sent to had a tool that deleted the program for me. Look around.

P.S upgrade your security

I used CW Shredder, HijackThis, NoAdware, and SpySubtractor several times adn cleansed ALL carp off my XP OS EXCEPT Cool Web Search which again and again reappears in memory and in my registry. Isnt there any knockout punch form this piece of crap besides re installing the OS and re formatting my HD? Why recommend these tools since they apparently dont work? Death to all the [-peep-] who spit out this [-peep-]!

make sure u have turned off the restore points if yur running XP.. Sorry but in work and can't for the life of me think of how to do that but because they are write protected anti spyware programs can't touch em and spyware can live on in them and reinfect yur pc.

Files cannot be removed once they have been started and running. Boot into SAFE mode then run any and all spyware programs you have - SpyBot, Adaware, Shredder, etc. You don't say what site you have been hijacked to. If it is something like GoTo or Lop or something like that do a FIND in REGEDIT to look for any referance to the site in question. Delete the entries. Also do a SEARCH in windows explorer for references to any web sites or spyware you think are on your pc. All of this in Safe mode.

For it is not what is seen, but what is not seen.

deff get ahold of the program PEST PATROL..... you will be very suprised, found tons of stuff more then ad-aware does. Ad-Aware was basically USE-LESS when i got pest Patrol.... this app will Easily find all adaware and spyware.... deff give it a shot. *bittorrent* for specific copy ;)

I will have to give this a try. The one I use now is Spy Sweeper. It finds everything Adaware and Spybot find plus some. I usually dont mention this program because I get a lot of s**t about using something I had to buy when there are several very good free programs out there. I figure if I buy one -cheap- program, and have it be the only one I have to run, it is easier and less time wasteful than having to run several programs that dont even add up to the one.
