Warning CPU has been changed.
I needed to put a new power supply in my computer. Now it does come back up but with this warning...

Warning! CPU has been changed. Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit!

If I click on F1 it brings me to my desktop but says I need to restore desktop, but it will not allow me to. I have tried everything to get into the setup, but have no idea how.

Any ideas? I am not a pro at this stuff, and simply do not understand it. I will try anything you say, but to please try to be as clear as possible for me. I would greatly appreciate that.

I was just told that the motherboard could have fried when my old power supply quit on me, is that really possible and could that be the reason it will not come up for me? I mean I am able to get to my desktop, but that's as far as I can go until I can re-enter the settings.

It could have fried the mobo. Normally you should also be able to press F2 to continue to load Windows. Try that and see if it goes forward.

When this has happened to me, I went into the BIOS (usually by pushing the "del" key while booting, may be a different key on some systems). Hopefully the BIOS re-detects your hardware OK and all you have to do is save then quit the BIOS (or quit after saving).

MB make and model would be nice.... But with the limited information available, here are some suggestions.

1. As previously mentioned, many bios' access is the 'del' key. Usually there is a section in bios to use default settings, might be worth a try. RTFM.

2. Most MB's have a bios reset jumper that will pretty much do the same as 1., but without having to scrounge through all the bios settings pages. For location and method of doing a reset, again RTFM.

General comments... your bios access key should be on one of the first few screens during POST. Your MB's website should have a copy in PDF of your manual on the support page, in case you 'lost' yours. You obviously have access to another computer, so.... RTFM. (I personally prefer the PDF version, its easier for old eyes to read.) Your MB install CD may also have a copy on it.

Ah yet another victim of shoddy powersupplies... When will people learn!! :lol: I trust you have not replaced the old PSU with yet another heap of junk??

I would take out the CMOS backup battery (literaly just a watch battery on the motherboard) with the powersupply disconnected from the mains. Wait a few a seconds and put it put the battery back in again. You can then rehook up the mains to the PSU.

Hopefully only your CMOS settings were corrupted by the old PSU's "death".

When you boot again you should get the option to "load default settings" which you should take.

Report back how that goes.

im having the same problem. but i can get into bios load defaults save and still after restart i get the same error msg with warning cpou changed bla bla. im running a asus croshair MB, ati rad 4870 x2 gainward gs glh video card, 4 gb ram , amd phenon black edition proc, windows vista ultimate OS and i think my power case is 700 w . Also when im running games or anything that makes my sistem work hard my screen freezes and only thing that works is the restart button from my case. hope someone knows what to do thanks

same problem, im using a biostar mobo wit h c2d e6600. even on warm reboot it always bothers me an dasks me for F1 to CONTINUe. i hate biostar...

I know this is an old thread but thought I would post the fix anyway. The problem is the CMOS battery, NOT the motherboard or PSU. If you installed a new battery the problem is the new battery is not thick enough. The new batteries are thin and the abit battery compartment requires a thicker battery. If you push down on the battery, (if the battery is too thin) you will feel play in the holder. Just get a thicker 2032 batttery & it will solve the problem. The thin battery is not making contact as it should & that is the reason for the CPU Warning. Hope this help someone in the future.

Also, if your system isn't booting, do this......
unplug the power cord from the PSU
unplug the 24 pin power cable
remove the cmos battery
move clear cmos jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3
wait a few minutes, work backwards to reinstall the cmos jumper , battery, 24 pin cable.
plug in the PSU cord
It should restart
be sure to go into bios and set the date - time, etc & whatever settings you need.

Hello,
I have a similar problem, but different.
I had to reset my bios settings, i replaced the MB battery to do that (im old school😉. So now i have the new processor warning
F1 to enter setup for CPU settings. <- something like that
F2 load defaoult settings and continue.

I press F2 and it runs system normally, but the prompt is now appearing every time i turn on the pc.
I tried entering bios, but i dont know what options should i enter...
I have everything almost on auto.
What should i do?
