WARNING for Razer purchasers

I have been running PC arcades (internet cafes) for the last 15 years now. And last year we changed all our keyboards, mice and headsets to Razer. And the build quality and warranty for these have been the worst I have ever experienced . It has been just over a year now and all the headphones and nearly all the mice have had to be replaced, as they have all physically broken. The keyboards are the only thing that seems to be kinda still be ok. Razer Australia refuses to replace broken items but when that is what the main problem what is the use? Yes we are a public server and items get abused a bit more, but less than a year?! months in many cases. Like i said its the worse products and service i've ever experienced. Take it from my 20+ years of gaming and 15 years of pro gaming. For the price look else where, anywhere but Razer.

Yeah this is pretty much a general problem with Razer peripherals. Any Razer peripheral that isn't crap build quality will be horribly overpriced. At this point the only things worth buying from Razer are their ultrabooks.

If you're looking to replace your equipment, look to Corsair. Their stuff is what I'd consider the most appropriate for internet cafes because they use a lot of metal and the Cherry MX switches are much more satisfying than Razer's own mechanical switches (especially Cherry MX Red).

To each his own. Myself, I had a Corsair KB with illuminated switches and within a month one third of LEDs were out. Second KB - same problem. Never an issue for the last few years from my other mechanical KB I still have. I guess if you don't need lighting under the keys the Corsair KBs are fine. Their LED suppliers prolly look at the bottom of the barrel for their LEDs. I have tried and replaced a few, but when the other ones kept going out I figured I might as well give it up. I'm not going to do their job in fixing KBs, and I don't have the time to RMA every other month or so. They look nice and sturdy, but beware of the LED- lighted ones.

sounds like a bit of misplaced anger to me.

not many warranties are going to cover abuse or wear from commercial use unless they implicitly state such. read razers warranty agreement, its not long, and you will find it states "unauthorized commercial use" clearly which is where your business would fall under. the warranty is made to cover defects in manufacturing not being beat up and abused by hundreds of people. commercial use is not the same as residential use.

i have two deathadders. one from 2010 and one from 2 years ago. i need to put new switches in the first due to hard use but both are not broken and have served me well. while they may not be the best built of all mice, certainly have their own issues and razer may be a high priced company with only mid tier products but i have found them at least satisfactory.

also, as stated above razer is not the only company to have products fail.

since you run a gaming cafe i would suggest asking companies you buy from about commercial warranties or using commercial products designed for hard use environments.

all metal construction may help a little however the switches and framework underneath can be damaged just as easily. also, cherry keyswitches are a poor choice if you will have any liquid in the area as liquid will drain straight into the switches and ruin them. a strict no food or drink policy is suggested if you do not have one.

I wouldn't call it "misplaced anger" when Razer's flagship headset breaks if you sneeze wrong while wearing it while 10$ headsets are more durable (granted the sound isn't nearly as good but if I'm paying close to a hundred bucks for a headset you just don't get to make it cheap and justify the price tag with the sound quality). To date I've had 5 Razer peripherals, 3 to begin with (Blackwidow Chroma + Deathadder Chroma + Kraken) and two replacements. 5/5 broke.

You also must have to think that these products are your and not the people's using them. Maybe they don't treat them as if they were their own?

Been using a Deathadder Chroma and Blackwidow for ages, apart from a build up of dirt both are like new. Have also got Tiamat 7.1's and a Firefly for less time but again both are like new still. I think a lot is the users.

agreed, much comes down to the users and how they treat equipment.

bose has been doing exactly what you said for years. decent sound quality, excessive pricetag and horrible build quality. there arent quite as many complaints. as i said before razer is a high priced company with mid tier products. they are decent choices but certainly not the worst or best although you do pay a bit more for them than some other brands.

in high wear, high risk environments something with more emphasis on being sturdy over style should be chosen. even then, wear happens. i guess none of you have ever seen the headphones at a listen-before-you-buy music shop. the headphones are builds as heavy as possible and they still disintegrate. headphones with thick cables, metal headbands and solid durable designs would be preferred over 5.1 headsets of consumer gamer design.

Personally started off getting a birthday present, razer 7.1 headset, still working, then got razer mamba chrome and widow tenkeyless, all working fine after around a year of abuse
