Why overclock and void your warranty? Get what you can afford and stick to that

Why would overclocking void the warranty? There is no way to find out that a cpu has been overclocked. And the risk of destroying the CPU is very small unless you are trying to break some record.

This caught my eye after doing a search.

If I OC my E6400, does it void the warranty?
If it breaks, can I just get it replaced?
I don't think I can afford to pay for replacement parts should anything break.

It voids it, but nobody can really find out.

I would say go for it, if it breaks you can get it replaced, it will just cost you a few days.

Core 2s are very OCable, they even have a built in shut down function if you push it too far. I would say don't go past 3.6ghz unless you have the know how w/ the E6400.

Best to just play the "I don't know what happened! It just .. stopped!" game if you OC too far then eh? And get a replacement.. heh

As long as the chip is not cracked or burnt to a crisp I don't think they would be able to tell.. but i'm not positive about that.

bumping up the FSB w/o touching the core voltage is safe (as far as I know... again I'm not an expert... this knowledge from reading stuff and personal experience, don't sue me).

In the end its all your decision, take the risks and reap the benefits/consequences or play it safe. I'm not gonna OC my E6600 at all for a long time after I get it, mainly because I have a 2Ghz P4 Northwood now and the E6600 just blows it out of the water so badly I don't need the extra push yet. A year from now I will OC it just to keep pace with everything else.

No one can tell you that your cpu broke becose of oc,they will ask you :)) (Did you OC this product and you will look them in the eye an lie like a bastard :) no i diden't do any thing)that's that i did :))

oc does void warranty if they find out
with a cpu they wouldnt know because if it breaks they cant check the frequency

with a GPU however it can have problems and still work. so if u return it half working they can check the speed.
at least i assume so.

Sneaky.
My original plan was to spend less on a 400 & OC it instead of a stock 600 and be scared to OC it.

May as well OC the 600 now, and if it breaks - claim I didn't!

Yeah don't do it. Intel or AMD will interrogate you wether you have overclocked you cpu or not, only then they would replaced your cpu if they like you in the first place. 😛 Okay no they won't know and they won't ask so you're good to go.

If Intel and AMD are really concerned about overclocking that can lead to damage and warranty which would affects their profit, they would have lock the cpu to it's stock frequency. Know what I mean.
