So my Father gave me a Dell and it needs upgrading in order for my Fiance to play world of warcraft. It is an OPTIPLEX 330 this is a link http://www.dell.com/us/dfb/p/optiplex-330/pd .
The current System info is as follows.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM2) Duo CPU E8400 3.00GHZ 2.99GHZ
Installed RAM: 4.00GB
System Type: 64Bit OS
Graphic/Video card: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chip Set Family

I was hoping to upgrade the ram (I have recently bought a 1TB SSD, so wondering if that would work?

Also want to upgrade the gpu because currently it is not compatible with WoW.

Thanks in advance for your assistance if you're able.

Firstly the minimum requirements from battlenet are a C2D E8500 or better si it's never going to run very well on that CPU
Secondly although the Dell lists a full height PCI-E 16 slot you need to take the cover off and check how much physical space you have for a graphics card before you know if you can fit one
Thirdly you have to check the PSU is good enough to power a graphics card and if not check that it's a standard form factor that can be replaced.

Basically PC's of this vintage are best used as is for whatever tasks they can handle, it's not a good starting point for upgrades in any way and will never be a good gaming PC.

A lot of people make statements about WoW being an ancient game that'll run on just about anything, but it's really not true if you want it to be playable and look halfway decent. I'd recommend an i3 or better and a GTX 1050 or better class of graphics card personally and even then you will have to dial down the quality a bit. Even on an i7 with a high end graphics card I've experienced frame rate drops into the low 40's at times, but I do run it maxed out.

Going down an upgrade path with that as a starting point will cost more, and result in less performance, than starting with a whole new system.

the ssd should work, yes

add more ram

what 64 bit os you have, windows 7?

the cpu is quite old and is not a fast cpu so be patient with it

do you have the slim version or the normal wide version of that 330?

if it is the slim, your gpu need to be small form factor gpu, low profile, that limits the type of gpu you can put in there

there is a 1050ti and a 750ti that has a low profile versions that should be cheap, doesn't need a psu connector or a big psu and will fit physically inside the case very well

the 1050 is faster
