Dear TH forums,

I am currently running this Configuration under a 900d tower case and Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX cooling solution.

However I cant help but feel that my cpu is just to hot!
My CPU rises to 70-80c when I am watching a 4k video or playing a intense game, is this normal under standard under clocked speeds? '3.5ghz'
Any input would be much appreciated.

-Thanks

I understand, but I just can't help but feel like with my cooling solution it is just to hot :)

Games like CSGO what is very CPU intensive only peaks at 50-60c.. however apart from that, no.
Not that I am aware of.

Yeah I understand, I was just making sure everything is correctly configured etc.. from my part :)

PS. Would upgrading all my parts to Skylake be worth it for me?
Sorry for topic change!

yea Skylake seems to be perform better at any task nowadays, and many benchmark sites just proven it. Skylake upgrades = Worth it.

Its not really a topic change since it is one possible solution to the problem. When it does get 70C to 80C does the video quality suffer? Does the computer become unresponsive or lock up? If not I would just live with the high temperatures for now and start planning for a new build.

With that said I can not say with certainty that a Skylake system would be able to do the job any better and at lower temperatures for that you would need to ask someone more familiar with Skylakes ability to process video.

The single threaded performance is significantly better in the Skylake.

80 Degree Celsius is fair ok for your cpu, it can take up to 100 degree celsius
As long as your video quality doesn't suffer, it's pretty much okay.
but it's safe to check your cooling systems incase.

As 4k videos load large number of bits per second, it is possible for the cpu to heat up
Youtube 4k videos have low bit rate but have 4k resolution, now those videos wont heat your pc up

but for example if you watch a high quality BRay movie on your pc(4k) it's possible
even Adult pornography 4k videos have higher bit rate(just saying)

try downloading a 4k video from youtube and see if your pc is heating up, if it does, then there is something wrong with the cooling system, or maybe your cpu is done for.

you have a pretty good set up, you cant actually come to any conclusion unless you compare

The client barely registers on my 6350 unless I'm running bots.

My 8370 linux server uses less than 1% unless I have bots on.

Bot AI is a % x the number of bots - used to be single threaded which was a pain if you liked a large bot population and ran a multi-core CPU - only one core was used. The game though runs on an Athlon online if you ask it nicely 😉
