So me and a friend managed to setup a beasty rig thnx to my mates dad having some connections :) we managed to setup a rig to play movies onto a 70inch screen thing is this screen says it can play up to 8k. so if we wana play movies in 8k would it be better to render movies into 8k or play blu ray movies that will be therefore scaled up.
now he has done 4 and 8k renders before which took about 45mins per 25mins of movie.

so my question is would it be better to render videos into 8k or try and play blu-ray's that will be scaled up

With your 70" 8k compatible screen your 8K video files will allow you to watch media at 3 feet or less with no loss in quality on your screen

Pity your going to get motion sickness and miss out on 60% of the screen because your sitting way too close but hey 8K woohoo

Simple the Higher the K the closer you can get or the Bigger your Screen can be before you Optical Eye Focus can detect the difference.

Take into consideration How close you personally are comfortable sitting in front of your 70" screen
If your sitting very close only 5 feet go for 4K as it all you need...

4k (and 8k) video files will look sharper on such a display. The upscaled blu-ray will look washed out compared to the higher resolution video.

Try it all 3 ways and compare for yourself, then share the results here.

What make/model display/projector are you using that has a 8k capability?

If your sitting Further than 7 Feet you wont benefit any from 8K Renders
You will get better sharpness from contrast settings than from 8K Renders

Limitations of the human eye ... http://www.cnet.com/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/

You Really need a Protector to benefit in any way for 8K
Anyway all that said some of the newer 4K TV's do have Better Contrast and this does make a Difference in the Perceptual sharpness of 4K

If you plan on projecting the image on a very large screen 20+ foot screen in a small theater or large house go for 8k (but even 4K would still be fine)
