[SOLVED] Water damage on Speaker

Good afternoon,

Hope someone can help. I purchased a Sony GTKXB5B Speaker 6 months ago and it stopped working. I returned it to the shop and they just wrote back to me and confirmed it was damaged due to liquid being dropped on top of it, however, it has been sitting in a dry place this whole time. They provided the photo below in the link - can anyone confirm if the photo shows it indeed has been damaged due to water or are they trying to pull a fast one?

Really appreciate your help here.

My eyes tell me that, that's not liquid damage. More like it's burned due to a bad cap or SMD. Perhaps a better imagery of the top left hand corner would depict more...?

Yep, I agree does not look like liquid damage, that usually has different coloring, including some corrosion showing. There is some stuff that looks like white residue around the area and further down, can't really tell what that may be from the picture.

Very much looks like liquid damage towards the bottom. That white coloring toards the bottom is unmistakable. What happened further up I can't tell- the image quality isn't good enough. Could be something that blew up as the result of liquid damage further down on the board.

Liquid damage is very common. At least in the gear I work on, it's often due to condensation (power amplifiers that are toured and get moved into and out of the cold) or a water leak (water-cooling systems at the lab).
