I'm trying to get a good performance and temperature out of my i5-4690k, at least 4.0 GHZ. But the only thing I cannot figure out is to go with air or liquid cooling. I just need a solid answer and maybe some suggestions on hardware.

Solution
The Cooler master 212 EVO or Cryorig H7 are considered to be good air coolers can manage to OC the 4690k to 4,3-4,5 Ghz. And with air coolers you don't have to worry about the pump failing or fluid spilling in your case :)

I agree. Go with air unless you have a very solid reason not to.

One thing to remember - The closed loop water coolers that you may be thinking about aren't actually much better at cooling than a high end air solution. They're much quieter and don't come with the potential issues of strapping three pounds of metal to your mainboard but they aren't better at cooling. So moving to a true 'water' solution means a VERY expensive custom built cooling loop. Now that will definitely cool your chip to an impressive degree but it's not for the feint of heart of light of wallet.

Well I was thinking the Cooler Master Hyper 612 Ver. 2, Is this also a good one?

i agree with lag go with a cooler master 212 evo for air cooling if your not as confident with water cooling if i had water cooling i would constantly be opening my case everyday to check the seals on everything to make sure they dont leak everywhere.it all depends on your budget and confidence but the cooler master 212 evo is more than enough to keep your cpu at good temperatures

good luck :)

Nothing wrong with good air coolers, but I have to disagree with the comments against the AIO Water Coolers

They:

1. Dont Leak; I've installed 8 of them, owned 3 in my life...never an issue. I even destroyed an old Corsair H60 to test "the connections" and I had to finally take a knife to the transfer tubes to get it to bleed.

2. Perform Great; they give wonderful temps (yes, good air coolers do too).

3. Look Awesome; I care about the look of my box, so to me and many others...this is just icing.

4. Space Savers; compared to their effective air counterparts...theyre much easier to set in cases without obstructing anything

4. They dump heat OUTSIDE of the case; this is their biggest advantage over air coolers...which throw all that heat back into your case, which unfortunately adds to higher [everything] temps.

I love the Corsair line personally: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Hydro-Performance-Liquid-Cooler/dp/B00A0HZMGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431721688&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+h60

Would the 2nd Gen. fit the 1150 socket type?

Yes, it fits on the 1150 sockets according to the CM website: Intel LGA 2011-3/2011/1366/1156/1155/1150/775. Its not better than the 212 EVO though. It has a smaller fan, and weighs more than the 212 EVO. Because its designed to work without a fan, it needs bigger fins for cooling. its made systems that needs to be quiet, not overclocking. :)
