Watercooling difference between G1/4" thread and 1/4" thread?

Hi,
I'm looking at making a full custom loop for my new system but I've never had any experience with custom watercooling before. As I was looking and pricing up the loop I noticed that the pump top and reservoir are 1/4" thread but the fittings, CPU block, GPU block and rads are all G1/4" thread. Can someone tell the difference between the two and will they work with each other?

G1/4 is the fitting size for connecting barbs and compression fittings to water blocks, radiators, etc. 1/4" tubing refers to the inside (ID) of tubing you can use...although most people don't as this is fairly narrow and restrictive.

When it comes to FITTINGS almost all adhere to G1/4 although some are G3/8.

Tubing is listed as inside diameter / outside diameter which allows different wall thickness. ID/OD in either standard or metric. Obviously the wall thickness is the difference in measurement.
