Way to tranfer from a USB 3 mass storage device to computer through Ethernet?

The title says it all, I wonder if something like this is possible. Essentially plugging the external hard drive into the computer through the Ethernet port.

Seeing as the USB port and ethernet port are different shapes...that's not going to work.
You'd need some device that can talk to the drive, and talk to ethernet.

Why would you want to do this in this rather strange fashion.
Why can you not plug your USB flash drive or USB External hard drive into the USB sockets provide either in the front or rear of your computer and use File Explorer to transfer whatever it is you wish to transfer from the Flash drive to your computer.

It sounds like the OP wants to use his USB drive as a NAS.

Many routers have a USB socket for that purpose. Otherwise you can buy NAS adapters for wired or WiFi connection to a network. The wired ones are cheap.
