Ways to change brightness/left arrow, up arrow not working

I have a pretty old laptop, running XP that can't use the Left or up arrow keys. This wouldn't be much of a problem except i can't adjust my brightness settings on the laptop. While I would like to fix the up arrow key, I want to change the brightness even more. Using key binding programs, I reassigned the up arrow key to another button, but when I hit fn+that rebound key, it doesn't change the brightness. However, it does work as a normal up arrow key. With my limited knowledge of computers, I'm guessing that the brightness key binding is a different command from the up arrow key. I'm wondering if I there is some way I can change the brightness/ fix the up arrow key without having to buy a replacement keyboard. Oh and for brightness I have already gone into display, and to my driver to try to change it. I have no idea how to explain this, but it only changes the color/contrast of the screen, not the actual light intensity. Thanks to anyone who responds

Unfortunately I don't need one of these apps so I would have to test some of them, but I only tried one (HP I believe) that didn't do much but from reading the decriptions you can find one that does the job, or by testing some you may find the right one... From a search I did minutes ago, I found these three apps may serve the purpose. The following are just a few of many from which you may find the right one..

For: Color, brigtness, contrast
Display Tuner 1.7

For display resolution.
Quick Res 2 1.1.3

This one may help rectifying the FN key display combinations
Easy Display Manager 3.0.3.5...
A video/Display tweaking software may help... some monitor manufacturers supply their own video tweakers, that should work in any monitor... So you should take a look in the laptop manufacturer's website.

You can also take a look in the Softpedia page... they have some video tweakers there that might prove usefull.

EDIT: Have you tried the arrows in 4-6 and 8-2 with numlock off..?

Sorry for not replying for this long. Anyway for some reason the up arrow key worked for a second, and it seems like even with it working, it wouldn't adjust the brightness (when combined with the fn key)
The manufacturer is Dell, but I couldn't find a video tweak there.

thanks for the softpedia link, but which one should I use? Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Sorry again for the delay, I appreciate your help!
