Wd 1 tb ultra i have to unplug it to get a boot . otherwise black screen .

My wd 1 tb doesnt allow my computer to boot . if i unplug it the computer boots fine . i bought a new cord for it to no avail . any suggestions would be appreciated . i have z170 m7 msi . the light on the wd ultra stays on when plugged in .

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HDD.

Are you able to access it at all in any way? Do you have data which you need to recover? I'd recommend that you try a different computer, to see if the same thing happens.

Basically you could try connecting it when the computer has already booted to Windows, to see if it's recognized. If it is - go ahead and check what it says about the drive and its partitions in Disk Management. If you don't need to recover data, go ahead and download DLG (Data Lifeguard) and run both tests (Quick and Extended), to see what's the situation with the HDD: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.
