I have the possibility to buy an used WD HDD for 25 €. It never worked. I know that the Greens have a bad reputation, but this is 7200 rpm, and I intended to change the intellipark. It will be used with the operating system for now. What is your opinion? Is it reliable if I change the intellipark feature, or is a 2tb Seagate Barracuda better? How to distinguish if it has 2 internal disks or 3? I can't tell the difference.
Thanks

Solution
The Green is supposed to be 5400rpm but sometime WD fill sorders with rebadged blues I think.
The bad one was the EARS version. i have several EZRX's and none have failed.
You cant change intellipark on these.

2tb Barracuda is probably the 7200rpm version.
without a model# any suggestions would be just a guess.

I can´t disable intellipark? !! I think this feature is disabled on this disc. Is not? I think only IntelliPower is activated. The disc I intend to buy is from 2015. Although on the website below, there is a video that says that this feature exists in the 2012 models.

I also saw the information that this disc can have 7200 rpm. But at this moment I have my doubts. From what I read, the RPM is controlled by IntelliPower. And how is this RPM control done? Is it possible to disable it?

There is also another question, which is how to identify whether the disc has 2 or three platters.

The Seagate drive is this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-Drive-3-5-Inch/dp/B07H2RR55Q
But many people say bad things about Seagate HDD.

The price difference:
Wd 20ezrx (never used) - 20 €
Seagate Barracuda (new) - 60/62 €

What´s your opinion?

WHY would you pay money for a known bad drive that never worked?
WHY?

I probably wouldn't take it if it were free.

The price difference is huge. And in my country it is a lot of money. The disk was originally assembled in a new tower. When the owner bought the tower, he exchanged this HDD for an SSD. So it was never used. I know that the reputation of these HDDs is not the best, but the price difference is huge.
What is your opinion?

'Never used' is different than "It never worked. "

Don't change anything on it...don't try to disable the intellepark.
Plug it in as is.
Does it work?

Intellipower was marketing nonsense. The claims regarding 5400 RPM and 7200RPM variable speeds were bogus. Those Green drives had a fixed speed, usually 5400RPM or a little above, but certainly not 7200RPM.

Here is a new twist to this Intellipower nonsense:

Some of WD's/HGST's recent models actually spin at a fixed speed of 7200RPM but report a speed of 5400RPM.

Ok. I gave up on buying the HDD.
Thanks

I'm not suggesting that you refrain from buying WD's drives. All I'm saying is that you should understand what you are buying.

I recently purchased an 8TB WD Elements with the expectation that it would contain a HGST helium drive which spins at 7200RPM but reports 5400RPM.
