Is there any information about what the drives are in the pre-populated versions, especially the less-than-maxed-out versions? For example, does the 8TB PR4100 come with 1x 8TB disk, or 2x 4TB, or 4x 2TB? WD Reds?

I called WD specifically regarding the PR4100 version and was told that all bays are filled. The 8TB version was what I was interested in and was told that that version comes with 4x2TB drives.

Hi there JEFFPERSON,

Sorry for the late reply. :)

BDCOTT is right. The NAS units should be fully populated. So a four bay unit would have four drives. In that case, as BDCOTT already said, it would have 4x2 TB drives.

As for the model of the drives, they would be WD Reds.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
D_Know_WD :)

D_Know_WD can you tell me if the Passport Wireless Pro be an always on, plugged in NAS or is it not meant to be on 24/7/365?

Hi there The Inquisition,

So you want to keep the WD Passport Wireless Pro plugged in and use it as a NAS device right?
Even though it would work, the device is not really designed for such 24/7/365 usage.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

Thanks!

Hi,
Right, I don't mean to be pedantic about this, but there are three different 'series' of My Cloud devices on the WD site. I'm trying to ascertain if this higher end Pro series NAS uses the higher end Pro drives. That would make a lot of sense. Considering they are named the same. But I'm getting the feeling that's not the case.
