Hi

I have an old motherboard which only supports pcie 3.0 (was c621e sage)
Looking in the manual cpu1 is directly connected to PCI port 3 4 and 5.

I recently have had a need to upgrade storage (among other things) in my workstation and thought I'd buy a pcie 4.0 SSD as the price was similar and when I upgrade/buy a new workstation I could just transfer the SSD.

TL;DR
1. I installed the newly bought wd black 850x 4TB in the onboard m2 socket. System didn't boot.

2. Bought a Asus hyper gen 5, installed the WD black 850x 4TB and a 1TB pcie 3.0 . Shifted the expansion cards around so GPU and HYPER is directly connected to cpu1. System boots but no WD black detected, the older 1TB SSD is though.

Now my question; Does someone have any information regarding the WD black 850x not being backward compatible with pcie 3.0 ?

The 850 should not have a problem with pcie 3.

Test the 850 on a different pc.
