Hello

Just recently upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram and did fresh Windows 11 install.

Mobo: Gigabyte Z690 Aero G DDR5 (updated to latest bios - F27) CPU: i7-13700K

I have my NVME drive (WD Black SN850X) installed in the M2A_CPU slot, yet it’s not showing up in the disc manager so I can’t use this storage. It also wasn’t an option to select it as a bootable device for me to installed windows on, so I installed windows on my SATA m2 drive instead.

I've also tried the other M.2 slots with no luck.

Windows detects it in device manager aswell as the WD software,.

Any ideas?

I’ve done all the windows updates and installed drivers etc.

Appreciate any help!

Maybe you could install .inf file for intel drivers in device manager and see if its working
Chipset Driver
ME
Serial IO
RST

if there is an exe (like dpinst.exe) you could use it, but i usually update all of them manually by right click the system devices modules > update driver > let me pick > see if there is only 1 driver for you (the compatible ones), if there is none there should be alot of drivers showing. Hope you're not confused with installing these drivers (as these are the latest i could find, i usually use their source for chipset related drivers).

I’m not even sure which one I would need.

I ran the intel driver scanner and it says I don’t need anything.
Also for some reason the NVME drive decided to show up in the boot manager sequence in bios. But still same issue, not seeing it in disk manager.
I feel like the bios is awful for this mobo, I’ve read online to change settings to enable m2 drives but there’s no section in the bios that I can find.

I’m so lost!!

You could try any, and yes intel usually never scans for drivers like chipset, me, serial i/o, and rst. Hence why i suggest you those drivers cause i use it too (except I/O and RST cause im on 500 chipset)

Then just use DiskPart to clean it. It'll appear in Disk Management after that. Just make sure to pick the correct drive.
It doesn’t show up as a drive in DiskPart.

Anyways solved the problem - returned the drive to the store and picked up a Samsung 980. Plugged in same slot and worked immediately with no issues.

Some WD drives do have compatibility issues with some boards. Not aware of a conflict with Z690, but it's not impossible. If a drive shows up in Device Manager and the SSD toolbox (WD Dashboard) it can usually be initialized with an elevated DiskPart. The compatibility issues I'm aware of have it blanking more generally (which can include in the BIOS) and is mostly on ASRock. This is reinforced by the fact Gigabyte itself has the SN850X on its M.2 QVL list for that motherboard. In which case my conclusion would be that the controller wonked out (although usually it still shows something in Disk Management). Fresh out of the box this is usually caused by a short or PCB bending/mishap, but who knows. If the 980 (PRO or Non-PRO?) is working, all's well; be aware the primary M.2 slot will have the best performance.
