Solution
What motherboard is this going on?
What do you use the system for?

Also, that text in the Amazon links is incorrect.
For the WD Black SN750:
"Gen 3 PCIee"
and
"PCIe Express 4.0"

Which is it?

WD Black SN750:
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd#WDS250G3X0C
Sequential Read Performance - 3100MB/s
Sequential Write Performance - 1600MB/s

WD Blue SN550:
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-blue-sn550-nvme-ssd#WDS250G2B0C
Sequential Read Performance - 2400MB/s
Sequential Write Performance - 950MB/s

Will you actually notice?
Probably not.

Solution
The SN550 is similar to the SN750 in some respects, but is the lesser of the two models - hence 550 being less than 750. They use a similar controller but the SN550's is cutdown as it only has four channels rather than eight, and also lacks a DRAM controller as the drive has no local DRAM. It instead relies on internal SRAM and HMB (host memory buffer, or system memory), although it does not need the latter due to its design. The SN550 does have newer BiCS4/96L TLC from Kioxia rather than the SN750's older BiCS3/64L, but the difference is very small (57 MB/s vs 55 MB/s per die). In fact primarily it's done because the SN550 has denser flash (512Gb vs 256Gb dies) which gives you some benefits such as needing only one NAND package (outside of the new 2TB SKU). They both have a similar SLC caching design, which is static-only and roughly 12GB at 1TB.

tl;dr the Blue/SN550 is an entry-level/budget offering while the Black/SN750 is higher-end

So I code a lot and play some games and web surf. I have a samsung EVO 250 gig but was just considering going with a bit better performance. Like I said in my post I don't need it. This was mainly a question of why? Because from the links it seemed the blue was faster.

Thanks for all the replies!

I need some help. So I may upgrade my storage, I don't think I NEED it but I may do it. So I have a simple question why would this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YFFX5M...&colid=8C326DUAC6P0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 be worse than this: https://www.amazon.com/Black-SN750-...d-search-10&pf_rd_t=BROWSE&pf_rd_i=1292116011 ?? The WD Blue says its 8 GB/s transfer rate and the WD Black says it's 3430 MB/s?? The black is more expensive. Am I missing something here?

Thanks!
Bits and bytes.
The blue says it's 8G bits/sec.
Which comes out to 1000M bytes/sec.
I suspect that's the lane speed so 4x1000.....4000MB/s
Because of the innards of the blue you get about 2400MB/s.

The black is the same but the innards push it out to 3400MB/s.
