I've installed a WDS500G2B0B (WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s M.2 2280 SSD) in the Ultra M.2 slot of an ASRock AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard. UEFI version is 4.4. I'm using all the default UEFI settings. When I check under "Advanced / Storage Configuration" in the UEFI software, no M.2 device is detected. Am I mistaken in expecting this configuration to work? The ASRock's M.2 slot is documented as supporting both PCIe and SATA drives. Are there default UEFI settings that need to be changed for the drive to show up?

I had a similar problem with an M.2 drive and a PNY 2.5-inch SSD not being recognized. Once i flashed the BIOS to beta 4.43, most of the problems stopped, including the drives not being recognized.

Plus, performance with the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G improved immediately.

Thanks for the info, mike.b.elek. I see that the ASRock web site instructs to update the BIOS first to v3.60 before updating to beta 4.43. Do you know whether v3.60 supports the Ryzen 5 2400G?
