Hi guys, first post.

I have had an issue with my PSU and it burnt two of my hard drives. Trying to gather some info to see it they are recoverable. This post is for drive #1:

WD750AALS with pcb 2060-701567-000 REV A.

I've read about the transfer of the bios data from the Marvell chip, but I suspect it has gotten hot too (as seen by the burnt foam).

Would it still be possible to get a new PCB and "program" it to bring this drive back to life?

Try those, hddzone seems promising, you can email them.
Ive tried searching 2060-701567-000 part number and it has with revisions.

If diode D3 is shorted and resistor R67 is open circuit, then this would point to an overvoltage on the +5V supply. The location of the damage on the motor controller IC would appear to confirm this. Unfortunately, due to WD's woeful "protection" circuitry, this means that the preamplifier on the headstack inside the drive is most probably damaged. :-(

Note that you must not switch modular cables between different PSUs.

Warning: do not interchange modular PSU cables:

As you have already pointed out, U12 is unpopulated, so the adaptive data are embedded within the Marvell MCU. This makes firmware transfer much more difficult.

You guessed that right, I got a modular PSU and used a modular cable that was probably from another PSU :(

I also found that piece of information here http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html .
One question though, is there not a little misstake in this line?
"When performing a resistance measurement, the power must be disconnected from the circuit under test. "
Should that not be a continuity measurement?

I'll try to do some measurements on the diodes/resistors.
