WD Cav Green 2TB prob ?

Watcha tekkies, need some help please

I have a brand new recently installed Caviar Green 2TB 6Gbps HDD connected to Sata III

I have in the last week or so installed 400GB of files on to it, consisting of everything possible. Despite this being a super fast drive, when I click to open it, it hangs, I get the spinning blue symbol for about 5 seconds, then it opens. I then get same on any folder I open within the drive, but once the folders are open, I can close & open again instantly

Is there a fault ? should I remove & reinstall everything or is this normal on such a large HDD as Ive not had one over 300GB in the past

Green drives spin down more often so it can take a few seconds to spin back up to speed before doing a seek. They also have lower rpm's. Once a folder is read, the OS is probably caching the info so the next time you open it, it's faster.

This is a 5400 RPM drive so while it may be fast to you, it's slow by today's standards.

You can disable spin down on the drive in the power settings of Windows.

cool, as long as its not faulty Im happy as only storage, OS is on Crucial M4 128GB SSD which is plenty fast enough for important stuff 😉
