WD Caviar Blue vs Seagate Barracuda

Hi everyone,

I am buying a 1 TB internal Hard Drive Tomorrow (This is my first build).
My main purpose is photo and HD video editing.
Please don't suggest an SSD as it won't be enough space for me and would be too expensive.

I have selected the following two but am confused with the specs. Seagate transfer rates seem to be too good in comparison to WD. But WD has higher load/unload cycles. How much do these things matter? I am leaning towards the WD as I have heard about Seagate failures.

Please guide me.

Well, you would only use a SSD for the operating system anyway so size shouldn't be an issue (although budget may be), but either of these drives will be fine. The WD Blue drives are not technically performance drives. A WD Black drive would be a better match for the Barracuda I think.

I would look for information in the comments/feedback that people are giving on these drives (at newegg.com etc). Running temperature, how many RMA's, DOA's, performance ratings from end users and of course financial aspects.

All drives fail eventually, so prepare yourself for that eventuality with a solid backup solution. As for one manufacturer versus another, well I wouldn't buy a WD drive right now at all, but that is just because I have had several recent failures. I haven't had issues with a Seagate drive in over 10 years, but I probably just jinxed myself. Personally I would go with the Barracuda.

I am going through the feedback.

I would like to know if there would be notable performance difference between the two.

Also what difference does the Load/Unload cycle make?
