Yep, I've just seen the thread and we're colleagues. This might work, although it's not like it's 100% guaranteed (it worked for some users and it didn't for others) so it's up to you if you want to try it. You'll get detailed info on how to complete the Full Erase (Write Zeros) process in the other thread by @SuperSoph.

Don't worry about the white led light. It's normal

Good luck.
Hey Hendra. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your drive. First you should backup any important data which you might have on that drive, just to be on the safe side. Then, I'd recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic) and test the drive with it (run both tests - Quick and Extended): DLG

Note that the Extended test might take a bit of a long time, depending on its capacity.

You could also take a look at this article hear on HDD noises/sounds so that you can compare: How to tell if the noise or sound the drive is making is normal

Hope that helps.

Hi , i just test the Quick Test and it passed

now im doing extended , but it's taking too long the time said 7 hours
and it's already late , i need to turn off the PC ,
can i cancel this ? or will it harm my HDD ?

If i have passed the two test ,
then my WD is safe ?

please tell me if this is fine ? (mine)

i found this on youtube but its WD black
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpNxovn7yjs
do you think its okay?

I Can hear this using headset and turning the volume up , at 0:08 - 0:21 theres a crackling noise
and when i close the case , i can hear like a thump noise from outside the case

Well your drive sounds fine to me. I have an internal HDD which does the same thing and I've never had a single problem with it. As for the video with the WD Black drive, it does sound like there might be something wrong with it. And just for future reference even if everything is OK, it's normal for a WD Black drive to be noisier than a WD Green drive, as it is the gaming/performance drive of the WD internal drives and the WD Green is designed for secondary storage.
I'd recommend that you always have a backup of your most important data, just in case, because with HDDs - it might work fine one day and crash the next, as it is with every mechanical device. It's better to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. :)
And if you have any suspicion that there might be something wrong with it, just run the tests from time to time to see if there are any issues with the drive.
But if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about this drive.

Cheers.

Hi , i think it make a different noise now (i enhanced the sound of my video)
http://youtu.be/gfiCu5l495M?t=12s
http://youtu.be/PEU4Al8vIP0?t=11s

the double ticking short noise , like a hearbeat
what do you think about that noise ?

yup running the lifeguard extended test as we speak , still 6 hours to go though..
how to tell if the HDD is pass ? the green checkmark sign ?
i do not need to see the view test results?

Note that you may hear similar noise from the drive during a head park operation. In my opinion the drive is fine. As long as the test results are good, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Just keep your important data backed up.
Here's a link with instructions on using DLG: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows
For the test results just click on "View Test Result" after the test is completed.

Thank you
emm , don't know why when i finished the quick test
any click the view test result , the WD lifeguard is not responding , and i'm forced to close the program
i'm afraid that if i have finish the extended test and click the view test result, it will close the software and i have to do the test again

all passed quick and extended test

but the WD support emailed me , and said that i should RMA it, (i only send them a link to my video sound)

and my WD mybook (external)
in crystaldiskinfo has current pending sector raw value 1 ,
as soon as i saw that , i backup my data (but i still got to back up 500gb more) ill do it tomorrow
but then i check the crystaldiskinfo, and the raw value become 4
what to do ?

I guess it's because of the second video? If the WD support says you can RMA, then just backup and do it, it's better not to take any chances.
About the WD My book drive - would you please run DLG or crystal disk info again and show a screenshot of the results, but after you've backed up everything? If you have increasing bad sectors, that's not good. The thing is that when bad sectors start to occur, this will continue until the drive fails eventually. Unfortunately there's no way of telling when this is going to happen, it could be a couple of days or even a year and more. Is your My Book drive still under warranty?

Well , i really dont want to RMA both of my HDD
because if i do that, i cant save any of my data
and RMA-ing it is expensive in asia , and very difficult

yeah i think its because of the second vid, but as i said that i enhanced the video sound
this is the crystaldiskinfo (but this is before i backup everything)
but after i copy half of my data, the pending current sector become 4
and earlier today, i backup all of it, and i check crystaldiskinfo again, and the pending current sector is still at 4 (i backed up / copy the rest of my file for 3 hours) (not increased)

You did a great job by backing up everything. The drive looks fine, but be cautious just in case. And do regular checks from time to time to see if this value increases. If it does, I'd recommend that you contact customer support and ask about RMA even. Remember to always keep a backup of your most critical data no matter which drive you are using, just to be on the safe side.

Well, i use this mybook maybe once a month, and if i not use it, i just put it on my desk and not plug it in at all

do i need to plug it in regularly to check ?
or just check it when i use it ?
and what i check is just the current pending sector right?

I'd recommend that you check the drive the next couple of times when you use it so that you keep an eye on the reallocated sector count and the pending sector count. If the increase then contact customer support. If everything seems fine, I'd suggest to check the disk when you have suspicions that something might be wrong with it e.g. slow and unusual transfer speed, unusual sounds/noises coming from the drive etc.

Okay will do !
well , my mybook when plugged in is constant fast blinking white light
is that normal ?

and i also got a respond from other guy concerning about my mybook
and after giving him the smart
he said to wipe it clean ?
well, this is the thread
