“just connect this to your computer via USB 3.0 and get up to 5Gbps of throughput.”

Really? Up to 5Gbps? Are you selling a USB adapter or an external hard drive? What 7200 RPM external drive do you know that even gets 3Gbps? Very false and misleading claim. By this logic if they had used a USB 3.2 Gen 2, we could have gotten up to 10Gbps throughout!!! Man we’re missing...wish they hadn’t cheaped out...

This is only $10 dollars below the list price. $140 used to be the normal selling price for drives like this, and they were regularly on sale for $120. Now you're lucky if you can find a used 8 TB for $140.

"For example, on Black Friday in 2019, Best Buy reduced the cost of the 12TB Easystore from $279.99 to just $179.99." --Datahoarders
