Hello Boogieman,
Thanks for the reply.
How can i do this test because my Vista PC does not recognize/see the Element drive.
It's a OS problem on my PC because all is working on my Win 8.1 tablet.
The drive is new and has never been used on my Vista PC.
I have several times uninstalled the driver in the device manager, tried several USB (front and back).
After unistalling I started up my PC, windows is seeing the Element and tries to install the driver without succes.
Sometimes I see a icon right below that the drivers are installed but in the device manager is a yellow ! that the drivers are not installed and a error code 28.
I cabn see the firmware code Vid en Pid.

Boogieman_WD :
Hey there, Evert.
This sounds truly unfortunate. It really looks like this is more of an OS issue rather than an HDD problem. Nonetheless, I'd recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostics) and run both tests (Quick and Extended), to make sure that the drive is working properly. Here's how to do that:
How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. I'd also recommend that you backup any important data which you might have on it, just to be on the safe side.
Has the drive ever been used with the Vista computer before? The HDD is fully compatible with Windows Vista and shouldn't require additional drivers besides the Windows mass storage device default one. I'd suggest that you uninstall it from Device Manager and reconnect it again to see if Windows installs its drivers and if it's detected properly after that.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
