Hey,
I have had my wd elements 10b8 for a few months and last night i went to do a system image backup on my laptop. I let this happen over night and the next day it said there was an error. Every since its really slow,i cant access the hard drive.

i used Hard Disk sentinel and it said health was 13% i changed the numbers in S.M.A.R.T to get the health back to 100%
following changed:

Reallocated Sectors Count -1000
Reallocation Event Count -216
Current Pending Sectors -400

After doing this i was able to access the drive and all my data is there, i started to move it to another drive and the rate dropped for 50-100mb per second to 0 for a bit then jumps to 300 kbps then back to 0. As it was doing this after 30 mins i checked Hard Disk sentinel, i could see the health was going down more and more.

what can i do it get my data back and what is wrong with the hard drive.

Thanks For Reading

Nick

the type of data recovery service he'll need would be the type which costs several grand. you have to be specific about that detail, as there are many "cheap" services which could not recover that data from a failed drive.

Definitely not "several grand". Typical costs to recover data from a drive with failing read/write heads is between $500 and $1200

Some companies will charge a bit more especially if it turns out to require replacing the HRA(Head Rack Assembly) in a clean room environment., but that's less likely in this situation where the drive is still accessible but unstable.
