Greetings!

1. For the 8TB, do the extra 2TB result in any loss of performance, speed or reliability compared to the 6TB?

2. Do both 6TB and 8TB versions use just a single 3.5" disc?

3. Any other considerations?

6TB will very probably be enough for a long time for me. On the other hand, 8TB is only $20 more.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts=)

  1. No
  2. Multiple platters inside a single 3.5" drive. But that doesn't make a difference
  3. If you need the extra space, go for it
Thanks for your answers! One more question:

2. Do the multiple platters operate in Raid 0 (striping) mode? If so, is this a concern for reliability?

No, that is not any sort of "RAID". 0 or otherwise.
It is stricly a matter of platter density. Only so much data can be contained o a single platter.
Hence, multiple platters in one hard drive size case.
