Wd elements hard drive not being recognised on a samsung tv

I've recently bought a 3 TB WD hard drive. It's got all my movies and music already loaded onto it and works fine with my computer. However when I plug it into my Samsung Television it is not being recognised. The lights are flashing but it is not showing up on the media play on the tv.

I can think of two reasons.

(1) The drive comes preformatted with an NTFS file system. The TV may be expecting FAT32.

(2) The USB mass storage device is configured with 4KB LBAs. The TV may be expecting 512-byte LBAs.
