Hello,can anyone help me to explain that whc is better HDD to use at serverware sata support for good performance for Video streaming & storage?

If you like WD and you want to do a RAID configuration, you need to spend the extra money and buy the RE version of the WD HDD.

The regular HDD from WD will not work in RAID.

Oh yeah? My 640 Blacks work great in RAID as did my old 250Gb SE16s as did my even older 160GB Blues. WD Recommendsyou buy their RE drives for RAID. It is NOT necessary.

Suresh_pogt what size drive do you want? And do you have a selection to choose from? I can tell you the best/fastest of several if I have a choice. I am not sure what is available to you of if your budget is in US dollars.

You can buy any hard drive and use it to store and watch videos. The data rate required to record or watch video is very slow compared to the speed of modern hard drives, so pretty much any drive will work just fine.

If you're buying a drive for a media centre and you might be dealing with multiple video streams at the same time (recording two channels while playing back a previous recording, for example) then you might need to use a drive optimized for audio/video playback. The firmware in these drives is customized for buffering video streams as opposed to general-purpose random access.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thanks for support, money issue its not nessesary to talk at the moment bt before i buy HDD i need some clarification i heard have some few types: WD ENT. Full performance, Black label, green label & blue label. Can tell me whc is the most powerfull for CCTV video recording with RAID 5 configuration on serverware with 4TB storage? Some of the HDD not suitable for video streaming & for video recording that what i hear from other engineers. Pls kindly explain/share your experince & knowledge, thank you.

I've checked that RE4 its gd for video surveillance & also the highest cache that made at 64mb. Is it RE4 is Black label type?

BS. I just did RAID1 on 2x WDC Black 1TB drives two days ago for a customer.

That is a non issue. You can STILL RAID these "normal" WD drives. TLER *improves* error handling, that is all. It does not prevent the use of RAID on HDDs not supporting TLER. As long as you have a good RAID card, this really should not be an issue.

Also to prove that you CAN STILL run RAID on the new drives:

However, WD (and even I) do not recommend using these drives on RAID5 and mission critical servers/workstations,etc. All I'm pointing out here is that you CAN run RAID on the newer WD HDDs.
