Question Wd external hard drive keeps disconnecting

2 months ago I purchased a WD 5TB My Passport for Mac USB 3.0 External Hard Drive --
Over the last several weeks, ever so often I noticed files disappear and I have to connect it again and it works ok for a bit
I am using this in conjuction with lightroom and notice the problem when in lightroom it says files may be damaged, the issue was they were not showing up on my hard drive until I disconnected and reconnected it
I have had other WD hard drives and never encountered this problem
I would appreciate if anyone would know how I can fix this
I went to energy saver and unchecked prevent computer from sleeping automatically,
put hard disks asleep whenever possible, enable power nap

Any help I would greatly appreciate

my wd my book did this for a few weeks before it completly died.
