WD External HDD working on PS3 but not on PC?

Hello, I made an account here just for this problem. My friend gave me this 250 GB hard drive, I don't know what kind of drive. All I know is that the LEDs blink for 1 second and then goes off, I hear no hard drive movement and it doesn't show up in device manager. Once I plug it in to my PS3 it works with everything on it. I don't have anything important on the hard drive so I don't mind formatting it. Thank you.

I'd advise you to check your Device Manager again and make sure you got the latest USB Hub Controller drivers for your ports (installed manually from the mobo/PC manufacturer's official website). Another thing you should try is plugging the external WD drive to another USB port on your computer and also check if it will get properly recognized in another working Windows PC/laptop (if you have access to one).

It's also advisable to take a look at the drives listed in your Disk Management in Windows. Hopefully the external will be listed there after the USB update/port swap. Posting some screenshots would be really helpful as well.

Hi @SuperSoph_WD I tried everything you said but no dice my other friend took the drive and used it on his 3 computers' (Vista, 7 and 10) and they all worked, but it doesnt work on my PC, he thinks its a driver problem and hes gonna bring a flash drive tomorrow and see if it works. If it does it might be a problem with something on my PC.

As you see, no problems. I'm kinda concerned because this s a brand new gaming PC...

Since the HDD is working on all other devices, then I'd definitely consider that the issue is coming from your PC. However, I don't think it's anything that serious really. I'd start by uninstalling & reinstalling all the USB hub controller drivers and make sure you got them manually downloaded and re-installed from the motherboard manufacturer's official website. If you had any recent Windows updates, it's totally possible that the OS has installed more generic and outdated drives which is why you are facing such issues with the HDD recognition. I'd also suggest you check Disk Management in Windows and post a screenshot from there as well when you get the WD External connected.
