Apologies in advance, this is my first thread, so i will simply write what is wrong in some depth.
I boot from an SSD, and keep 3 additional drives. 2 x 1TB and a 2TB. 1st 1TB stores downloads, 2nd 1TB for additional storage while the 2TB is partitioned 4 ways to store document, music, pictures etc. My Western Digital Caviar Green 2.0 TB has died on me or so it seems. It is not detected at all in POST or BIOS. I have checked the disk management many times and it does not appear. This is also the situation for another hard drive Seagate Barracuda ES.2 1.0 TB.
The WDC 2TB does not spin at all, I know this because I cannot hear it but I have noticed that it gets warm regardless of detection, lack of spin and start. i have tried using an enclosure to connect it externally but no luck there. I then tried to connect the WDC to another working PC internally and again no luck. Swapped many cables & tried different SATA ports, no luck either.
I have considered purchasing another WDC of same manufacture month & serial WD20EARS in order to swap out the PCB which was suggested in a few threads but I've also read that success rate is near zero to none. THE LAST RESORT is to freeze the hard drive in hope I can revive it long enough to get the necessary data from it. I have not attempted that yet without council.
Both hard drives stopped working around the time I disconnected them to clean my case and to tidy my cable management. Shortly after I reconnected both drives, I attempted to start the PC but it would not start, I noticed the CPU fan attempt to spin as if booting normally but it stopped briefly - I changed the power supplied to one of the case fans and it allowed me to boot the computer like normal. Once booted I had noticed that the 2 mentioned drives above was not detected, my SSD booted fine along with the downloads hard drive. I thought maybe the prior situation where I could not boot properly could have shorted the drives.. if that may be the situation then surely my SSD and the other workin HD should be in the same situation of no life being detected.
Thank you for your patience in reading my dilemma. Any knowledgeable advice is welcomed.
