WD HDD freezes up games help!

Hi. I cannot figure out why my Western Digital hard drive is freezing/crashing my games. My games work fine on other hard drives. I tested the HDD with Windows, SeaTools, and the WD Diagnostic Tool checker.

The problem started after I upgraded my new computer, and games were unplayable. I reformated the HDD but the games are still unplayable?

Right now I'm playing games off an external WD HDD. Will that be okay? Thanks.

if possible could you give us more info on your machine also what parts you have upgraded /// if you have energy saving options enabled. If so turn them off for HDD, a hard drive that is constantly powering down and up is not going to live very long (I don't know why this is even considered a good practice, so that it is still supported by MS OSes for mechanical hard drives
Does your BIOS contain energy saving options?
If you can rule out energy saving procedures as a culprit, you might want to check the S.M.A.R.T history of the drive (maybe the drive is troubled with something... and then it is a good idea to replace the drive, because chances are it will only get worse from there). Anyway, I think this wikipedia article is good start if you never heard of S.M.A.R.T before:

I pretty much upgraded every part except the HDD.

EDIT: The problem HDD is a Western Digital Caviar 250GB SATA 7200rpm 3.5" PC hard drive p/n WD2500KS-00MJB0
I will check to see if I have such energy saving plans, though I did not have problems with the HDD before my computer upgrade. I have an ASUS UEFI BIOS Utility thing, I'm not sure where to find the energy management section (I found EPU Power saving mode- enabled). I also have a 2nd WD HDD (80gb primary HDD boot w/ windows) in my computer which runs fine. Not sure why the my problem HDD isn't working, I checked the diagnostic tests which said it had SMART and passed the given tests...

wow no offense but you paid far too much for what you have i have an fx6100@4.2ghz with 16gb ddr3 a hd7750 2gb msi 700w alpine psu and a gigabyte ga78-lmt-usb3 board all for £350 plus a aftermarket cooler that does make sure itsnever above 40c on air


how old is your hdd???
have you tried testing via speedfan
and piriforms defraggler has a benchmarking facility
i would also run windows checkdisk facility on it
with fix bad sectors selected see what that says western digital are not fantastic drives i had a few in the past that have given me nothing but problems (thats why i now use 4x seagate 500gb sata hdd 🙂

Speed Fan says that i have a fitness of 85% and a performance of 100%.

Defraggler says HEALTH is GOOD. Power on hours is 968 days.

Windows checkdisk found no problems. Could it possibly be my PSU not feeding enough power?

not unless its a really
faulty psu its a 650w does it click and spin then roughly 3 secs later click again

No, I've been trying to listen to it and it doesn't make any odd sounds. I don't know what the problem is...

P.S. Is it okay if I use an external WD hard drive as an internal one? It only has a USB, and is smaller than an internal drive.

you could if you have intenal usb ports or fancy running the usb cable through an expansion slot to the rear of your machine to the usb ports but i suggest you replace the main drive (i pulled 3 x 500 gb sata drives from some old sky+hd boxes i had laying around) they work fantastically and there seagate too

i would try a fresh install of your o/s see if that makes a difference as a last chance dip
