So I've had this WD My Book external hard drive for 5+ years doing nothing. It wouldn't work years ago so I decided to leave it alone and use a smaller one. I recently took it out of it's plastic shell. It occurred to me that I could send it in to get the data recovered. The data isn't a big deal to me atm however I was wondering if it's possible to connect the old drive internally to my pc to get the data off of it? If it powers up. I checked the back of the drive and had 3 ports , 1 power , 1 odd one with a white cap over 2 of the pins and a long what looks like a old floppy port. I'm not sure I want to just start plugging stuff in and turning on my pc just to watch it blow up. I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Either try plugging in different ports or find a cable like a SATA to Usb, This drive doesn't have a SATA port since it was made 2006. I would be surprised if it turned on imo.

If the enclosure supported any type of encryption, you'd be out of luck...

Might be best if you could take a few pics of the drive and it's connectors, pm to a hosting site and provide a link to them here...

Is the data possibly on it worth investing in assorted $20-$40 IDE/USB powered adapters?

The data isn't worth much however I've kept it this long so it's sentimental. I was looking at the IDE/USB adapters and verified that the ports match up. The encryption I'm not sure of since the motherboard of the drive was only connecting power and IDE cable. It's possible but I'm willing to get the adapter just for future use since I have laptop drives that need to be dealt with as well. Thank you for a quick response.
