Hello
While searching for a video/ photos storage HDD I saw an article saying that the My Book 8tb are hc 320 @5400 (shuck)
Is this the case for all the Mybook 8tb nowadays?
Is this hc 320 helium based or it's only for the 7200 version?
Is it worth it to pay an extra 30$ above a Seagate Barracuda?
This is the model sold in my country: WDBBGB0080HBK-EESN

There is no certainty as to the model of drive that is inside the case. You may even get an SMR model. My two 8TB My Books have different drives inside.

BTW, some (most?) of WD's "5400 RPM class" drives report a speed of 5400 RPM but actually spin at 7200 RPM.

HGST's helium model numbers have a "HUH" prefix.

Backblaze consistently reports that HGST's drives are more reliable than Seagate's.

So it's a lottery
Is it true these drives are pretty warm?

I have this 8TB Seagate, shucked, sitting in my NAS box.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQJBSQL

I would only buy an external for shucking if I found multiple other people that had already done it with that exact device.

That's the thing, several people shunck this WD but apparently it has many variant HDD inside, in 2019 it was a Red drive or hc 510, in 2020 and first part of 2021 it was a crippled hgst hc 320 @5400 and now it looks like it's also a different drive. Knowing PC shops here in my country they could have an old stock of 2020 or the newest one
For pure storage of videos and photos , the Barracuda SMR is not enough for that job?
For gaming I have an nvme of 2 Tb
