Hi, first post here!

I am planning to open my WD My Book Essential (model 10000H1U)

It is the 1TB model with the dark blue light:

I'd like to know WHICH DRIVE is inside this model before i do it: I dont mind about
destroying the enclosure as long as the drive is usable without it.

Is the internal HDD SATA or IDE (or worst case electronics are molded
to the USB controller)?
:??: :??:

Millions where sold and nobody actually reports what the drive inside is!

Thanx

Its not about the cost of the drive, its that Im SICK of external drives,

a) I have three already and they consume space and they all got power supplies.

b) The USB 2 actual transfer rates are half the rates i get from internal drives.

I am fitting the HDDs inside the case

Eventually I will open the drive and tell you my findings

I opened the case and here is the ... conclusion:

- The drive is a NORMAL WD SATA2 1TB drive model WD Green WD10EAVS with 8MB Cache.

- Opening is fairly simple, there are many youtube videos that help.

- The drive is mounted in an internal metalic case without a ventilator and with 4 rubber silencers

It is slow (as expected) and ULTRA quiet.
