I have a My book essential 1130. it is pretty new only been used 3 times. I can see the device in 'devices' but not in my computer. When i went to 'disk management' it shows "disk 0" which is the internal, "disk 1" which is my external, the one that i am trying to get working, says 'not initialized'. it doesn't let me click initialize. offline option is available and when i click on that it says "the device is not ready". I don't believe that it has crashed because its only been used 3 times in the last 2 years. Any insight on this will be much appreciated.

Hmm, 3 times int he last 2 years you say...
If you don't have anything important on it you can just format it from the disk management. Or you can try running it on a different PC, the copy of your Windows is probably having a bad time reading from it.

I have the 100% same problem and exactly same situation. I bought my book essential 1 TB just an year ago and never used it. a month ago i copied all my data from my PC and from my 500 GB portable device to my book essential. and 3 days ago when i plug in my book, it wont show. it was completely packed and not used many times, but still dosent shows up. i have tried different methods but nothing is working. it showing in drivers and disk management but same at the condition you mention above. Any one got any solution except formatting it? i have almost 300 GB data on it and that's my complete life working of last 12 professional years.
