When I plugged in my brother's portable usb drive today, an error popped up "Delayed Write Failure..." and it couldn't be read or work from there on, I unplugged it and plugged it in again but it still wouldn't work. i tried testing it on 2 other computers and changed usb cables but to no avail. As soon as I plug it in, I only hear the Windows USB sound, but it does not show up in Explorer or my computer.
it slows down the computer and other applications when it's plugged in...
it only shows up in Device Manager sometimes as "WD My Passport 07A8 Device"...
Computer Management cannot run when it's plugged in...
I occasionally hear a beep sound from the hard drive...

Hi again, Derick!

Unfortunately, it seems like your WD My Passport has failed. 🙁 If you can still access the drive to backup the data, it would be great to do that ASAP!
I'd suggest you to check your warranty here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=p2w8B4
If it's still covered, you should definitely contact our tech support and send out your RMA request to get a replacement.

Welcome to the community, Derick!

I'm very sorry to hear about your brother's WD My Passport. 🙁 This error is typically caused by UN-safely removal of the external drive or when Windows cannot finish saving a file to the drive. Good job with the troubleshooting so far, I'd now suggest you to test the drive's health and SMART status using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool. Make sure you run the quick and the extended test from the utility. Here's a link to the DLG tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=LNCvVg

Keep me posted with the SMART data results!
