WD my passport appeared but not opened and formatted

my ext hard disk WD 500 gb usb2 appears in my computer but not opened and formatted
kindly guide
i also installed CCleaner

It sounds like the drive's partition might have been corrupted. What does it say for the file system when you open Disk Management? (here's how to open Disk Management: How to access Disk Management in Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 to manage hard drives just follow the instructions for your OS)
If you need the data on the drive, you should not attempt to reformat it before you recover it. I'd recommend that you try to access the drive via Linux Live CD/USB to see if it is recognized this way and if you can recover your files or try some of the data recovery options from this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Hey there Wasim. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your drive. I'll need a bit more info. It doesn't get quite clear what's the issue. It appears in "My Computer", but you can't open it? If this is the case, is there any error message that pops up? Or do you mean that it says that needs to be formatted when you connect the drive?

when i try to open it the message come hard disk is not formatted do you want to format it
and i click yes
after long time message came
window is unable to format the disk
