WD My Passport question

Is there any reason not to delete the utilities that come with this drive and reformat it? My wife had been using it to back up her laptop. She could not get it to just do it at scheduled times. The backup utility was constantly running and hogging her resources. I have not tried to use the utilities. She just wants to use it to store data, not constant backup. Thanks in advance!

I know, it`s crazy, right? You'd think a check for answers would be built into that automation.

In my opinion, you shouldn`t have any issues if you get rid of those utilities. Any new drive should be formatted before you use it for anything, and that would completely wipe those utilities away, anyway. I`ve got an old 1TB WD Passport and I kept all the original files in a folder just in case. 4 years later, I haven`t touched them. Went ahead and deleted them.

Things like that are often aptly called "bloatware." Chuck it unless you're actually using it. If you run into problems later on WD will be able to supply you with the files again.
